At Flower Mound Community Church we believe that Jesus’ mission on the earth was to love his Father, and love people. In Luke 10:18 someone asks Jesus what is the greatest commandment, he asks them how they read it. The questioner responds by citing Deuteronomy 6 (the Shema~ hear O Israel the Lord your God is one, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and strength) and Leviticus 19:18 (love your neighbor as yourself).
Since it is Jesus’ mission statement it should be ours too. The mission statement of Flower Mound Community Church is “Loving God & Loving People, Worshiping Christ & Revealing Him to the World”. We have written the first part of our mission statement ‘Loving God and Loving People’ because it is what we have and what we do. We have a loving God at FMCC and we have loving people, and it is what we must do- love God and love people.
With that said there is nothing intrinsically Christian about that statement. Hidus, Jews, and Muslems all could strive to love God and love people. As Christians the best way to love God is to worship his Christ. Jesus is the center. We worship and adore Jesus for all that he has done for us, and that is what makes us Christian. Secondarily, we love people by revealing Christ to them and sharing in the good news of salvation through him. If we truly love people and want the best for them we are going to fulfill the job of the church and reveal Christ to the world in word and deed.
By loving God and loving people, worshiping Christ and revealing him to the world we fulfill all that God asks of his people; this is our aim at Flower Mound Community Church.
